Project
  • Project start 2008
  • Training through promoters
  • 30 000 users

The project in Zambia started in 2008. In a slum in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, we already disseminated the SODIS method very successfully. As there is a great need for drinking water treatment also in the rural areas, we now extend the activities to these regions. Since 2010, we promote the SODIS method in Senanga in the Western Province, south of Mongu

For the promotion of the SODIS method we closely collaborate with communal health organisations. These organisations inform the population about different health topics such as cholera, malaria or family planning. The staffs live all in the community. Thereby a deep-rooted integration of the organisation in the community is ensured. Already more than 30 000 people drink daily water that is disinfected through sunlight.

Through partnerships with other development organisations the project wants to reach widespread application of the SODIS method. Also the government is an important partner of the project. The health centres in the communities are trained in the SODIS method. They can now explain patients with diarrhoea how to use the SODIS method.
