Together with the SODIS Foundation we have been promoting the SODIS-method in Peru since 2003. One of the local partner organisations is ADRA. After a small pilot project in the Andes, ADRA started to integrate the SODIS-method into ever larger programs, from water supply to integral health interventions. Being one of the biggest NGOs in the country, this had the positive side effect that other organisations also started to promote the method through their projects.

In objective of the current project is to improve living conditions of 10,000 families in the Ancash region through a series of “healthy habits”. For example, families learn how to treat drinking water with simple methods. But also innovative ideas like solar showers and improved cooking stoves are part of the project, which help reduce consumption of firewood and improve indoor air quality.

The project emphasises on self-help. ADRA supports local promoters establishing demonstration modules. In this way, families are motivated to become active and copy some of the elements of this module – and adjust them to their own requirements.
